Community Meeting 3rd March 2016

A meeting of supporters to identify areas of common interest where working together would reap benefits.

On 8th May 2015 one of the commitments made by Rotary, as part of the declaration of Jersey as a Rotary Peace Community, was to work together with other community organisations. First to identify issues faced by the island community and then to see if some of these issues could be tackled and solutions found by like-minded organisations working together.

This meeting on 3rd March 2016 was a first step in this process.  All those organisations who had, last year, written in support of the five Rotary Peace Principles were invited to join this Rotary facilitated meeting.  The aim was to see if there were areas of common ground and interest that we could pursue together for the benefit of our community and communities worldwide.

Some 26 organisations responded and contributed to this opening workshop. It was clear that there were some common areas of concern and it is now Rotary’s intention to hold further meetings to focus more specifically on the individual issues raised.

Minutes of the meeting will be posted on line and distributed amongst all who have already expressed an interest in this work.  We shall also broadcast widely the subjects for focussed attention at subsequent meetings so that as many people as possible will have an opportunity to contribute should they wish. The minutes are now available here.
