Leisure Lakes Steam and Vintage Vehicle Rally 2016
Our 8th Leisure Lakes Steam & Vintage Vehicle Steam Rally was once again a great success with hundreds of visitors and raising £25,000 for charity.
Leisure Lakes Steam and Vintage Vehicle Rally
Our 8th Leisure Lakes Steam & Vintage Vehicle Steam Rally took place on the weekend of the 23rd & 24th July 2016. The principal organisers of the event are the Rotary Clubs of Preston South and Kirkham. The event has become a firm fixture on the steam rally scene and draws exhibitors and visitors from all over the country.
Despite the original event dates having to be re-arranged because of a waterlogged site as well as a new venue the days went off very smoothly. Even with some inclement weather especially on the Sunday that did not put a damper on a very successful rally and event. As with previous rallies there were hundreds of exhibits including a vast array of steam engines, trucks, cars, tractors, motor bikes and military vehicles. In addition to these vintage vehicles there were again attractions for all the family and age groups at the fairground with numerous craft, trade and food stalls. Mention must also be made of the ever popular and now famous Aunt Nellies Tea Room with its first class refreshments and musical accompaniment from the Wigan Ukulele Club.
A good time was had by all with many feeding back the good value and asking when the next year’s event will be. Make sure you check out the montage of photos of the day.
This year’s event raised just under £25,000 for local charities. This brings the total raised by the Steam Rally in 8 years to an impressive £267,250. The Club has to say a big thank you to all those who organise and set up the event as well as exhibitors but more importantly to those who attend the event and pay their entrance fees with the re-assurance that it goes to good causes.
