A group of 8 budding young photographers from Thornhill’s Wallace Hall Academy recently took part in the Rotary Club of Thornhill and District’s very first Young Photographer of the Year competition. The theme of the competition was Our World is Beautiful. Each student was asked to shoot off three photographs and submit a short piece outlining how the photographs they took best fitted the theme.
The winning photographs were selected by locally-based professional photographer Ed Baxter. Winner of the Intermediate section was Connor McAvoy, while the winner of the Seniors was Josie Fairley Keast. Both young photographers will now go forward to the Rotary District 1020 Finals in May.
Joan Neilson, convenor of Youth Service at Thornhill Rotary said ‘This is the first time that Thornhill Rotary has offered this competition to schools and I am very pleased that Wallace Hall students rose to the challenge. I am also most grateful to Ed Baxter who, as well as judging the competition, offered the young students advice on how they might develop their interest in photography.’
