Our newest Rotarian, Peter McCrossan, was tonight’s summer speaker at the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw.
Peter’s address was his ‘job talk’ and he spoke of his professional background in Chiropody/Podiatry and his current role as Director of Allied Health Services in NHS Lanarkshire.
Having qualified, and gained State Registration, after three years training, Peter’s career started in Wishaw Health Centre, doing general chiropody. Two years later, Peter moved to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to take up a promoted post and, during his time there, he gained more experience in various departments, including orthopaedics, treatment of diabetes and the burns unit. After five years, Lanarkshire beckoned, once again, and Peter has worked here since then, progressing to his present position.
During his address, Peter highlighted the changes to both clinical practice and treatment environment and he showed a number of slides of the clinical conditions regularly met by podiatrists, stressing the problems diabetics encounter with their feet due to restricted blood circulation to their extremities. A snapshot of the approximately 1,400 A.H.P.s in Lanarkshire was also given.
A video of the See It – Say It – Do It campaign, which asks those who use NHS Lanarkshire facilities to raise anything that they feel needs awareness, was shown and Peter explained that this will also be progressed through social media. Comments can be made to SeeitSayitDoit@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.
Peter is also podiatrist to Motherwell Football Club, but he takes no responsibility for the performances on the field of play!!
