David Nellaney - Health and Safety

Thu, Mar 30th 2017 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

David Nellaney, a partner at Digby Brown, Solicitors, will speak to the members on personal accident claims and Health and Safety
H&R: Bill McCallum and Ian St John
VoT: John McGeary

Tonight’s guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw was David Nellaney, a partner with Digby Brown Scotland's largest personal injury law firm.

When David joined them, in 2004, they had a staff of forty but, over the years, their compliment has risen to over two hundred. David spoke about personal injury compensation, giving the background to the Scottish legal procedures and going into some detail as to how damages are calculated.

He then referred to two of his own cases, taking great care with client confidentiality. In the first, the employer had admitted liability, fully supporting the injured party and settled the award of damages. In the other, liability is being contested and the case is ongoing, however, given the nature of the injuries, David has negotiated interim payments to assist with living expenses and alterations to residential property.

David answered a large number of questions put to him by an interested audience and Past President John McGeary gave the vote of thanks.

The winners of the monthly bonus ball were Ian Carrol, John Chapman and Peter Brown. Hugh Graham won the weekly bonus ball.
