David Kerr was the guest speaker at tonight’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw.
David is a farmer from Virginia, USA, who is visiting Scotland to attend the Royal Highland Show in Edinburgh. David’s great grandfather left Port Glasgow for America in 1891 and David said he had a strong link with a Scotland having attended Edinburgh University in 1977.
After graduating, he has worked as a Naval Intelligence Officer, and then, on Capital Hill, as an aide to Republican Senator Mike Crapo from Idaho, although David is a Democrat by persuasion.
Currently, a visiting lecturer in American Government and Politics at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond columnist for the Stafford County Sun and co-host of local TV political programme, David is considering running for Congress in Virginia’s 1st District.
David then moved to the main thrust of his talk which was current American politics and he gave a very detailed personal account of how Donald Trump won the Presidency, and, more importantly to David, how Hilary Clinton lost it.
He then went on to answer a large number of questions put to him by members.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Past President Charles Keeper.
The winner of the weekly bonus ball was Ian St John.'What We Do' Main Pages:
