Charity Donations Evening

Wed, May 25th 2016 at 12:00 am - 1:00 am

Each year the Marlow Thames Club makes donations to a range of local charities

Alexander Devine Childrens’ Hospice
Building has started and completion is expected by the end of the year! This 6 bedroom unit with many special features will provide care for children with life threatening illnesses and through community nursing, will support many of the 100 families in the area who have the need for such services.  A sponsored bike ride from High Wycombe to Marbella provided the funds to make this donation.

Aqua Box
Aquaboxes take water filters and emergency supplies around the world, giving the gift of life to families and communities

Coxless Crew
Featured on our website,  this extraordinary group of young ladies rowed across the Pacific from San Francisco to Cairns, spending 257 days at sea , 4 rowing at a time.. The cause for which they have raised £60,000 to date are Breast Cancer Care  (giving advice and support to younger women in particular) and Walking with the Wounded, especially helping injured service women deal with physical and mental  trauma.

Helen and Douglas House
This event has rekindled our association with this charity which provides emergency, respite and end of life care for youngsters. Helen House handles children to age 16 and Douglas House was the first to deal with 16 to 35 year old young adults. By its nature several members of the same family may be patients at these hospices which provide pain and symptom management, an outreach service, support for relatives…. and FUN!
Steve Illman with Sue Barnes of Helen & Douglas House

Marlow and Wycombe Homeless Run to London
For 30 years a group of 8-10 people have organised a weekly rota to drive to London to distribute clothes, bedding, toiletries hot drinks and other basic items to about 50 homeless and vulnerable people in London. Although the personalities have changed over the years the dedication and enthusiasm for this valuable work has not - and the need for it most certainly has not diminished.
John Bromwich with Sally Dark and Trina Richards

One Can Trust
Temporarily homeless and/or impoverished people, typically awaiting benefits to come through, are given food parcels to see them through their difficulties. The provisions which are mainly cans and dried pasta/rice come from schools , churches and supermarkets. However the Trust has been offered the use of new premises for a 2 year period which will enable them to offer fresh fruit and chilled goods as fridges are to be bought - our donation will help with those plans.
Ann Wint with Rob Hill from One Can

Transition Town - Marlow
Our local group is one of 200 such groups in Great Britain and Ireland who strive to make a real difference to the need to reduce Carbon Emission Levels by taking action at a local level. So they have planted an orchard on Seymour Plain, campaigned for cycle paths and run the Community Market where local produce can be traded.
Steve Illman with Liz Lorente from Transition Town - Marlow

Triangle Project
This small Marlow-based charity provides allotment space for small groups of people with disabilities, primarily mental including autism, many coming from care homes. Derelict land has been reclaimed and made into raised beds so that the participants can enjoy the full seed-to-plants-to-harvesting-to-eating journey. The donation will provide funds to enable the continual improvement of the plots.
Ann Holden with Sylvia Miller from Triangle Project

Wycombe Homeless Connection
This charity with which the Club has an association and is proud to have supported previously, helps rebuild lives and “fight injustice” by supporting individuals and families in High Wycombe who are dealing with the problems associated with homelessness.
John Bromwich with Mike Cannon, our President, representing Wycombe Homeless Connection.  Mike also received a cheque on behalf of Marlow FM our very own community radio station.  Run as a not for profit organisation it provides local content not provided by the main broadcasters.  It covers such items as local events, politics, traffic and gives a voice to local personalities.

Macmillan Nurses
This well known charity provides invaluable nursing to people who are coming to the ends of their lives as a result of such illnesses as cancer.  It also provides amazing support to the families of those in such difficult situations. We are pleased to support them again and a cheque has been sent to them.
