The Abbotswood school minibus, carrying 12 very excited children and 2 support workers, arrived promptly at Marwell Zoo on the morning of Wednesday 8th June. Waiting in the sunshine to meet them were Rotary team of Philip Dinn, Caroline Brace and George and Anne Stephens. The change of venue from Paultons Park to Marwell proved to be very successful, with it being a new experience for most of the children. Their favourite animals were probably the cheetahs, giraffe, penguins, tiger and meerkats, though they were very happy when the 5 day old zebra came out to play! Some of the children were very interested in learning about the animals they saw.
Lunch went down well, as did the animal masks, which were also provided. The children (and the 2 male adults!) let off steam in the adventure play areas, having enjoyed an ice cream – an extra special treat, before returning to the minibus after a very enjoyable day.
Report and Photos by George and Anne.
