President Alan Rankin presents DM Hall's winning team the Trophy

Stirling Rotary Am-Am golf competition, Friday August 26th. 2016

In place of its usual lunchtime meeting, Stirling Rotary club held, last Friday, the 30th. annual playing of its popular AM/AM golf competition, organised to raise funds for local charities.  The format of the competition consisted of teams of four players, with the best two nett scores being taken at each hole. Following the issue and consumption of bacon rolls, the “shotgun” (simultaneous) start was at 09.30, with teams returning to the clubhouse for lunch in the early afternoon.  Weather was fairly co-operative, with only a brief downpour at the very end.

The main prize, the Hepting and Farrer Trophy, was won by a team fielded by D.M. Hall (Cumbernauld) with a score of 126.  Team members were Derek Anderson, Don MacLeod, Stuart Robertson and Gordon Samson.  They were closely followed by the team from Graham and Sibbald of Stirling with 127. An additional award, the Littleton Trophy for Best Rotary Team was won by Callander and West Perthshire Rotary Club, with a score of 128.

A number of additional fund raising activities took place, including an auction of star items such as vouchers for play at nearby courses, accommodation, meals and hairstyling.  These had been collected by the fundraising team headed by Ranald Ross-Watt.  Overall organisation was once again in the hands of Sandy Farquharson and the final result was an impressive total of over £3000 going to chosen charities.

President Alan Rankin thanked all who participated, including rotary members, the players themselves and Stirling Golf Club for the use of the course and looked forward to a successful rerun in 2017.  Further information and photos can be found at the club site www.stirling.rotary1010.org.
