Charity Golf Day raises £2,500 for Inner Flame

The 23rd Rotary Charity Golf Day raised the fantastic sum of £2,500 for Inner Flame

Thanks to the huge generosity of all the competitors the 23rd Rotary Charity Golf Day raised the fantastic sum of 2,500 pounds for Inner Flame

Unfortunately the 2016 event had to be postponed as some very heavy rain brought about the closure of the course on the original date in May.  One month later, on Wednesday 8th June, it was a hot and humid day for the golfers, playing a stableford competition in teams of 4, to negotiate the 5 miles of fairways, rough, bunkers, greens and other hazards on the hilly Ogbourne Downs Golf Course.

The eventual winners were CK Autos with 87 stableford points just in front of PG Events Two with 85 points.  In third place was Going Straight, also with 85 points, but placed third on a countback over the last 9 holes on the card.

The day concluded with a post-event dinner at the Golf Club during which David Wreathall of Inner Flame presented the David Maggs Memorial Shield to CK Autos which they will hold for one year.  He also presented individual prizes for Nearest the Centre Line on the 1st hole to Peter Stone of The Old Codgers and Nearest the Pin on the 17th hole to Andy Szeuolia from Going Straight.  A special prize was awarded to PAH Accounting for being the hardest working team (the team scoring the lowest points).

Swindon North Rotary Club would like to thank the Chairman and Executive of the Ogbourne Downs Golf Club for allowing the use their facilities, Dialogue Semi Conductors for their generous sponsorship without which the event would not have been possible, and of course all the competitors.

Since 1994 the Rotary golf days have raised more than 60,000 pounds for local charities.  The next Charity Golf Day will be held on 17th May 2017 (weather permitting).
