 On Sunday 9th August President Margaret
hosted a
Prosecco and Strawberry afternoon in aid of the Presidents Charities.
   End Polio now Walk
On Sunday 19th July Rotarians and friends led by organiser Rotarian
Robert Jackson took part in the clubs "start of President Margarets year" walk.
Walkers assembled at Oakwell Hall 12:15 to start the walk which routed around Driglington to end at Ives Farm for a Farmhouse Breakfast 14:30.
   




Mon 27th July Paula Godfree talked to the club about Equine Pathways UK who
provide free equine assisted therapy sessions to people suffering with depression, adults and children with disabilities and additional needs

Following the club talk by Paula Godfree at Healds Hall by Equine Pathways UK the club members followed up the talk with a visit to EPUK centre at Carr Hall Farm Gildersome.Luddites enjoyed meeting the horses and listening to Farm owner
Carole Taylor and the EPUK team.

   
    The Birstall Luddite club 2015 RYLA candidate Jack Brown visited the club along with mentor Ossett Rotarian Nev Ooghtibridge and gave a post event talk.
Tony the New Generations Committee Chairman who organises the clubs RYLA candidates together with the committee rounded up the RYLA evening and looked forward to next years RYLA candidates.

District Governor Hazel Haas Visit

On Monday 14th Sept District 1040 Governor Hazel Haas visited the club.
Hazel spoke of her being the first lady 1040 DG and about the first Rotary President
from Sri Lanka - K.R. Ravindran.
Hazel spoke about Ravi and his Theme "Be a gift to the world"
Hazel then took questions and empathised the subject of Rotary Membership and Media Communication and how the club can develop by using new ideas to further rotary aims 
of gaining new and younger members using Social Media.

 On behalf of Kirkwood Hospice, Birstall Luddites held a Murder Mystery Dinner at Healds Hall Hotel.
One hundred Rotarian's partners and friends enjoyed a three course meal and were tasked with playing detective to the murder being acted around them by the actors who were sat at their tables and acting the scene of a Celebrity Chef of the Year Awards play.
    Brian attended our meeting and talked about his son Sean and how helping his son lead him into the Charity The Outlook Trust.
They are a Charity for blind and visually impaired children with an ethos of teaching specific independent living and mobility skills. They provide respite for parents. They give children the opportunity to form and develop long-term friendships with other children with similar disabilities.
 



Club Outside Visit
Fairfield School.
Club Rotarian's partners and friends gathered at Fairfield School for an outside visit.
School head Ann Tierny and Speech and Language manager Tracey Fillan met Luddites and invited us to their canteen for a buffet evening meal.
Ann told us about the school and the children, explaining the children's complex learning and mobility difficulties for the 128 pupils aged three to nineteen that they have attending at the school.
Ann then gave Luddites a guided tour of the school
Luddites at the House of Friendship
District Conference - Scarborough

This year Birstall Luddies in partnership with Fairfield School had their own stall in the House of Friendship
at the District Conference.
Tracey Fillan represented Fairfield School and through the day with
President Margaret, Rotarian Helen and Colin manned the stall.
They explained to visitors the aims of the school, they showed and gave demos with the toys that Colin had modified
       


 Seven Luddites attended Batley Rotary Clubs "The Worlds Greatest Meal".
Luddites Rotarian and District Polio eradication spokesman Robert Jackson gave a talk about Rotarys "The Worlds Greatest Meal" and the world statistics on reported cases.
   Kirkwood Hospice Batley and Birstall support group and Birstall Luddites joined forces with
Dewsbury Rock Choir to raise funds for the Hospice.
President Margaret and Rotarian Nigel with Rotarian Helen Wall and Inner Wheel member Edith Davison
helped run the evening. Christine Breeze liaising with the Rock Choir leader Narelle.
 

Sat 31st October the club held their 27th Anniversary Charter Dinner.

 President Margaret presents a cheque for £1534 for Kirkwood Hospice to Vice President Rotarian Helen Wall. Monies were raised by Luddite functions - Murder Mystery and the Rock Choir concert.

Rotarians Martin and Paul led the evening entertainment with sessions of beetle drive and Bingo.
 
       
       
 A joint Inner Wheel / Rotary choir sang at St Thomas Church Batley in aid of motor Neurone Project raising over £400
   Luddites dressed for work at Oakwell Hall Country Park 28th Nov.
  Despite the threatening forecast, a working party of 6, led by Jim  and consisting of Steve, Tony, John Logan, Bill Hildred and Ian Booth, guided by Ranger Patrick, completed the task of of cutting down an overgrown thicket of willows

   Luddites and partners gathered for the Presidents Christmas lunch at Healds Hall Hotel Sunday 13th Dec.
During the meal a collection of £300 pounds was raised for the Cumbrian Flood appeal.

The walk "Afternoon Tea to end Polio" was organised by Rotarian Robert Jackson.
 
   
 
 President Margaret presented a cheque for £3560 to Tracy Filan from Fairfield School. The money is for an Eye Gazer special computer equipment to aid the pupils at this special school.
