INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS

Following on from a chat a couple of years ago, The Rotary Club of Denbigh were offered the opportunity to present an ‘outreach’ concert in conjunction with the Llangollen International Eisteddfod.

The event, held at the newly re-opened MYDDELTON COLLEGE, Denbigh  on Thursday 7th July, was a great success.  All 300 tickets were snapped up and it appears everyone present thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

The Audience were entertained by five International groups and one ‘Home Grown’ choir.  Tickets were free, but a raffle and bucket collection was held with proceeds going towards the Llangollen International Eisteddfod Bursary Fund.

The Evening started off with the Mother Touch Cultural Marimba and Dance Group,  34 youngsters between the ages of 5-13 years from Zimbabwe. Full of dance , action and music, they were a joy to behold.

Following them we had Bishop Ainsley High School Choir from Trinidad & Tobago. The 66 girls in the Choir presented a selection of Gospel , West Indian Folk and Calypso.

Closing the first half were the Clarion University Chamber Singers from Pennsylvania. A mixed Cappella group, they perform Renaissance motets and madrigals.

Following the interval, the evening started with Aichurok Dance Group from Kyrgystan, a very colourful dance group that also gave a duo and a solo ‘Guitarist’

.

Next on were Lleisiau Menlli, hailing from Ruthin and led by our MC for the evening, Nia Wyn Jones. Nia Hails from Denbigh and is Head of Music at Ysgol Maes Garmon, Mold.

The final act of the evening was the E Stuudio Chamber Choir from Polva, Estonia. They presented repertoire of pieces from Estonian and foreign composers.
