Awards presented to the Club


Over the years the Rotary Club of Astley has won several awards that reflect the dedication of our club members to the Rotary movement. Please take the time to browse through a brief introduction to our most significant achievements.

International Project Award 2005
The Rotary Club of Astley was awarded the Jacqui Crompton Memorial Plate at the Annual Conference of District 1280 for the best International Project. The plate was awarded for the work on the Tsunami Project in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Colombo Central in Sri Lanka.

Rotary National Golf Knockout Competition 1998
After playing earlier rounds on a match (knockout) basis and winning his area finals, David Statham (on behalf of Astley Rotary Club) played the National Finals at Woburn Golf and Country Club on Friday 2nd October 1998. After the 36 holes David was one shot up and therefore became the Rotarian National Golf Knockout Champion for 1998. David donated the prize money to the club's Foundation Committee.

The Rotary Foundation District Service Award 1997/98

This was awarded to Astley Rotarians George Cowburn, Eric Parr and Ian Lawson for "Outstanding service in promoting the Rotary Foundation and its goal of World Understanding and Peace." The award was in recognition of the 3H Project in Brazil.

International Project Award 1997

The Rotary Club of Astley was awarded the Jacqui Crompton Memorial Plate at the 11th Annual Conference of District 1280 for the best International Project. The plate was awarded for the work on the 3H Project in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Sao Paulo in Brazil.

Club Bulletin Award 1997

At the District 1280 Council meeting on the 17th April 1997 'Astley Argus' editor Eric Parr received the "Club Bulletin of the Year Award" on behalf of the Rotary Club of Astley, for the club's newsletter.

Award from Tidy Britain Group 1991
Thursday 31st October 1991 saw the presentation of the first award to the Rotary Club of Astley at Haigh Hall, Wigan. Rotarian Brian Monks was on hand to receive this prestigious award on behalf of the club from Roger Stott MP for Wigan. The award was gained for work done with the Tidy Britain Group over the previous year and in particular for our interest and support for the educational side of the work.

World Community Service Award 1995

The World Community Service Award certificate The Rotary Club of Astley was presented with the award in recognition of their international efforts in collecting and delivering 12 tons of school equipment to schools in Albania.

 



 

Indian Rose Bowl 1995
Indian Rose Bowl award for 1992The Rotary Club of Astley, along with the six Rotary Clubs of the Wigan Metropolitan Area, was awarded the Indian Rose Bowl at the 9th Annual District 1280 Conference at Blackpool on Sunday 8th October. The award was in recognition of the funding and operation of a Life Education Unit for schools in the Wigan area.


Indian Rose Bowl 1992

Astley Rotarians collect the club's 2nd Indian Rose BowlAt the 6th Annual District 1280 Conference held at Llandudno on the 18th October 1992, The Rotary Club of Astley was awarded with the Indian Rose Bowl in recognition of the Astley Fayre, where in co-operation with local residents a village fayre with up to 3000 visitors was organised for three years.
