Meeting 17 – Meeting held on 31st October 2016 at the Castle Hotel- EVENING MEETING

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Paul Andreianu.

·Grace was said by Paul Andreianu.

·Guests: Rob & Jane Curtis and Brian Austin friend of Ron.

·Visiting Rotarians: None.

·Greetings from other Clubs. None

·RK announced that as it was Halloween Secretary Colin had kindly prepared a special Halloween Quiz and to make it more testing, one on the Guy Fawkes Plot as well.

·The questions were well received by all be it that many were very testing. In the end

it was agreed that Ron’s table were the winners.They were presented with a magnificent selection of fruit and vegetables from Colin’s allotment.

·RK thanked Colin and the rest of the Coombs’s family for their work in the preparation of the Quiz and making the evening an enjoyable one.

·The Sergeant at Arms was present. He gave out several fines and read out some interesting events from this day in history.

Next meeting is Monday 7th November 12.30pm for 1.00pm.

The speaker is Anthony Wills of The DASH Charity.

Meeting 16 – Meeting held on 24th October 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Adrian Stabbins.

·Grace was said by Adrian Stabbins.

·Birthdays: Non.

·Almoner: RP said that he was pleased to see Paul Bailey back at the meeting.

Adrian Benge has had two biopsies under his tongue. However he is in receipt of correspondence from the Queen who has arranged for a get well message to reach him  daily through the Royal Secretariat.

·RK advised that an attendance board for the Evening Rotary Meeting was being passed around for members to advise whether they would be attending. The theme for the evening being Halloween.

Secretary Colin advised that there would be a Special Council Meeting at 2.00pm.

·SPEAKER FOR THE DAY

·Eric Malam who gave a useful update on the forthcoming District Conference next March.

·Tony Monk who gave a talk on the Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust and the extensions

to Wexham Park Hospital and Heatherwood Ascot.

·The Sergeant at Arms was present. He gave out two fines and read out some interesting events

  from this day in history.

Next meeting is Monday EVENING 31th October 7.00pm for 7.30pm.

The theme for the evening is Halloween and there will be a quiz.

Meeting 15 – Meeting held on 17th October 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·Grace was said by Philip Reynolds.

·Guests: Honorary Member Cllr Sayonara Luxton, Mayor of RBWM and her driver Mark along with Rob Curtis.

·Visiting Rotarians: None.

·Greetings from other Clubs.- Celle following the recent joint visit to Berlin.

·Birthdays: Bryan Preston.

·Almoner: RP advised that Paul Bayley was recovering from further surgery on his knees and

could be away for some time. Richard Carleton’s wife Lesley had had a long and difficult time

with her knee operation but was now on the mend.

·RK advised that the attendance board for The Dinner at Victoria Barracks on 18th November was being recirculated for the last time.

·RK congratulated Rtn Philip Reynolds wife Mary on receiving a Papal Award. She has been made a Dame of the Pontifical Equestrian Order of St Gregory for her work supervising pupils’ education in Catholic Schools in England and Italy. One of the highest honours in the Catholic Church.

·SPEAKER FOR THE DAY

·RK introduced Cllr Sayonara Luxton, Mayor of the RBWM.

·Sayonara gave a very interesting talk about her unusual life and lead up to becoming the Mayor of the Royal Borough having started life in Goa India and living in Dubai before moving

England.

·A vote of thanks was given by Andrew Panter.

·The Sergeant at Arms was absent so his deputy Colin was on the lookout. He gave out two fines and made some read out some interesting events from this day in history.

Next meeting is Monday 24th October 12.30pm for 1.00pm.

It is now a Speaker Meeting and the speaker is Tony Monk, Frimley Health Foundation Trust proceeded by a short Presentation by Eric Malam on next year’s District Conference .

Meeting 14 – Business Meeting held on 10th October 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Adrian Stabbins.

·Grace was said by Adrian Stabbins.

·Richard advised that attendance boards were being circulated for both The Dinner at Victoria Barracks on 18th November and the Visit to The Mill at Sonning –‘High Society’ on 9thDecember. 

·Announcements: - 

·RK again asked whether any Rotarians could attend the ‘People to Places’ quiz night at the Guards Clubat 7.30pm on 12th November.

·RK advised that several Rotarians were in favour of supporting the Disaster fund for Haiti.

It was agreed that the Club would donate up to the value of a Shelter Box £1100.00approx. (Outside International’s budget)

·RK asked whether any Rotarians were intending to go to the National Day of Remembrance

Day Parade and Town Church Service on Sunday 13th November. Those interested to advise him. 

·BUSINESS MEETING.

The Committee chairmen were attending outlined their reports.

·These have already been circulated to members along with the minutes of the Council Meeting held on Monday 3rd October.

·Chris Simon outlined a proposal for the Club’s Benevolent Fund to be registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). No objections were raised by the members

and the Council decision for this to be progressed was accepted.

·There then followed a short notification about District Conference by Eric Malam. Owing to insufficient time he will make a full presentation at another meeting in conjunction with Bernard Hawkes who is responsible for arranging our members attendance at the Conference. 

·The Sergeant at Arms and his Deputy were absent.

Meeting 13 – Speaker Meeting held on 26th September 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Andrew Panter.

·Grace was said by Andrew Panter.

·Guests: Eva Brooks, Rob Curtis, Colin Meads ( Associate Member) Geoff Knapp.

·Visiting Rotarians: Joy Arnott ( Henley Bridge & District Governor) Joy brought greetings from her Club. Nigel Blackburn who brought greetings from his Club Misbourne Matins. Nigel also invited Rotarians from W&E to participate in the ‘Children in Need’ collection at Heathrow Airport on Friday 18th November.

·Almoner: Bob was pleased to see both Martyn Gorton & Adrian Stabbins back following their recent eye surgery.

·Announcements: -

·RK reported that it had been a busy week in Windsor and had been attending some excellent events at the Windsor Festival in Windsor Castle. He was pleased that the Club was continuing to support this important annual event. He had also visiting the Windsor Half Marathon which was started by the Secretary of its Founding Charity The Prince Philip Trust Fund. This year attracted some 5,000 runners.

RK had received a complementary thank you letter from The Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Mayoress following their attendance at the club’s 85th Anniversary Dinner.

RK reminded members that ‘Meet the Scholars’ would be held on 20th October at Badgemore Golf Club if any were interested in attending please let Neil know.

RK also asked if any members were interested putting together a table of six at a ‘People to Places’ quiz night at the Guards Clubat 7.30pm on 12th November.Please advise Bryan Preston. 

·Secretary: - Colin advised that there would be no meeting next week as this would be a Scatter Week. There would however be a Council Meeting to be held at the Council Offices of Eton at 6.00pm on Monday 3rd October.

·The Raffle was won by Eric Malam.

·.The President introduced the Speaker Joy Arnott District Governor who was speaking about the current structure of Rotary International and RIBI.

Joy gave a very interesting talk about Rotary in general, Polio Eradication and the two charities she was supporting during her year in office. She was also pleased to report that the number of new members joining Rotary throughout the District was up and please to see that we had a two new members and three further possibilities. Joy also reminded members of the dates for the District Conference in Bournemouth. 24th to 26th March 2017.

·A vote of thanks was given by Eric Malam.

·The Deputy Sergeant at Arms Colin was asked to stand in as Paul had to leave. He read out some interesting quotes from this Day in History.

Meeting 12 – Speaker Meeting held on 19th September 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Geoff Kidd.

·Grace was said by Geoff Kidd.

·Guests: Paul Andreianu (for the last time), Eva Brooks, Rob Curtis, Pat Preston (Speaker).

Also Christine Heybourn & David Mc Donald, Chairman of the 41Club.

David Mc Donald brought greeting from the 41 Club and said that they were endevorouring to give support to the Windsor Round Table which was having difficulty in recruiting new members. Any assistance would be appreciated.

·Greetings from other Clubs.- Chris Simon gave greetings from the Rotary Club de la Manche in Jersey.

·Birthdays:  Neil Aufflick on 25th.

·Almoner: was absent.

·The president then inducted Paul Andreianu into the Club.

·Bryan Preston read the ‘Object of Rotary to PA and RK inducted him into the Club.

·All members welcomed Paul into the Club. Paul then said a few words and thanked the

members for accepting him.

·Announcements: - 

·RK reported that he had had many complementary remarks about the Club’s 85th Anniversary Charity Dinner on Friday evening. The event was attended by The Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Mayoress, The Constable & Governor of Windsor Castle Admiral Sir James Perowne and his wife Lady Nicola Perowne and other dignitaries from Windsor. The Queens 6 from Windsor Castle put on an excellent performance and were offering CD’s of their music if anyone wants to purchase them. These can be obtained from their website or through the President.

·Thanks to Bernard for organising the speaker Brad Ashton and thanks also to Ralph Cooper and his team for organising the Raffle.

·RK said three Rotarians were attending Loddon Vale Rotary on the Scatter meeting on 3rd October. Ron asked if any other Members wished to also go along they should contact him.

·RK asked all members to attend another Club on the day rather than just miss a meeting.

·Secretary: - Colin thanked the President for organising the Anniversary Dinner.

·The Raffle was won by David Osmond.

·.The President introduced the Speaker Pat Preston who was speaking on Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Pat gave a very interesting talk about and how her specialist trained dog had transformed her life.

·A vote of thanks was given by Bob Heybourn who has known Pat for many years.

·The Deputy Sergeant at Arms was on hand and fined newly Inducted member Paul Andreianu for missing his first meeting as a Member. He then read out some interesting quotes from this Day in History. On this day 50 years ago Chubby Checker was No 1 in the American Charts with ‘The Twist’.

·Announcements: -

RK reported that unfortunately Katharina Bareiss was leaving the Club as she was returning to Germany and this would be her last meeting. She intended to remain in Rotary and was hoping to join another Club in Munich.

RK thanked her for the work and support she had given to the Club.

Katharina thanked the members for the enjoyable and rewarding time she had spent at W&E. 

·RK reported arrangements were progressing well for the Club’s 85th Anniversary Charity Dinner on Friday evening. The performers were booked.

·Ralph Cooper was organising the Raffle. All prizes are to be sent to him.

·Tony Walsh of W&E Opera thanked the Club for their support in organising the Gala Evening performance of Carmen at Eton College in July and passed RK a Cheque for £3,200 raised on the evening for the Prince Philip Trust. This cheque will be presented to HRH The Earl of Wessex at the forthcoming Dinner at Victoria Barracks in November. 

·Secretary: - Colin had visited The District Council meeting. Minutes would be distributed.

·The Raffle was won by Laurence Slatter.

·.The President introduced the Speaker Paul Thompson from Festival Spirit.

Paul gave a very interesting illustrated talk about Disabled persons’ visits to Music Concerts

organised by FS.

·A vote of thanks was given by Guy Barlow as chair of the Community & Vocational Committee.

·Any Other Business: -

Eric Malam advised that limited number of paper copies of the Rotary District Directory had

been produced. It was agreed that the Club would purchase six copies for internal distribution.

·The Deputy Sergeant at Arms was on hand and fined two of the Presidents present and also Geoff who’s phone rang. He then read out some interesting quotes from this Day in History.

Meeting 10 – Speaker Meeting held on 5th September 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Chris Simon. 

·Grace was said by Colin Coombs.

·Greetings from other Clubs.- Paul Bayley had taken a party of Rotarians around Eton College.

Chris Simon had attended the opening of the Paralympics at Stoke Mandeville and met with

members from Maidenhead Bridge.

Adrian Stabbins advised that Philip Turner was currently unable to drive.

·Announcements: - 

·RK reported that there were currently about 100 guests attending the Club’s 85th Anniversary Charity

       Dinner on 16th September. He made a request for members to provide prizes for the Raffle.

·Secretary: - Colin had attended a ‘Working Together’ meeting at Ascot Rotary Club.

·The Raffle was won by Derek Bishop.

·The Sergeant at Arms had to leave early so read out some interesting quotes from this Day in History before the Speaker.

·.The President introduced the Speaker Ron Lewandowski.

Ron gave a very informative, interesting and well illustrated history of Berlin, the wall and architecture since the Second World War.

·A vote of thanks was given by Adrian Stabbins as chair of the International Committee.

Meeting 9 – Business Meeting held on 22nd August 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Terry Kinsley who also said Grace. 

·Neil Aufflick read out the apologies:-  Katharina Bareiss, Adrian Benge, Derek Bishop, Richard Carleton, Martyn Gorton, Abbi Lewis, Paul Lock, David Osmond, Uma Patel, Bob Pickles, Bryan Preston, Adrian Stabbins, Philip Turner & David Wheeler.

·Guests: Paul Andreianu & Eva Brooks.

·Visiting Rotarians:  None.

·Birthdays:  Colin Coombes & Bob Heybourn 29th

·Almoner: was absent. 

·Announcements: - 

·RK reported that he had had a very enjoyable evening at the District Petanque Tournament

             at the King’s Head Little Marlow organised by The Rotary Club of Bourne End & Cookham.

             Ten teams had competed and The Windsor Warriors had collected a Bronze! Their

              team was supported by their manager David Wheeler and assistant Sue.

·RK said that the numbers of guests attending the Club’s 85th Anniversary Charity Dinner on 16th September was rising however the take out by the Club could have been better.

·Secretary: - Colin arranged a draw for the two complementary tickets to the Mozart Concert in the Waterloo Chamber in Windsor Castle organised by the Windsor Festival. This was won by Adrian Benge.

·The Raffle was won by Chris Simon.

·.The Business Meeting followed.

These have already been circulated to members along with the minutes of the Council Meeting held on Monday 15th August.

BH advised that there had now been several exchanges with the Hotel re the parking problems. They have agreed to remove the ‘Public Parking Available’ sign from the entrance to the car park on Monday lunchtimes. We will have to see how this works out. We were lucky

still  have free parking at the hotel as others in their group were now charging all.

He also fined the President for recording in the notes of the last meeting that he was away again!

The speaker is Ron Lewandowski who will be talking about Berlin.

There is no meeting next week as it is a Bank Holiday.

Meeting 8 – Speaker Meeting held on 15th August 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

       ·The Money Taker was Guy Barlow who also said Grace.

       ·Neil Aufflick read out the apologies:-  Paul Bayley, Derek Bishop, Chris Clark,   RichardCarleton,

        Martyn Gorton, Terry Kinsley, Abbi Lewis, Uma Patel, Chris Simon, Philip Turner  & David Wheeler.

·Guests: Chris Aitken Trustee &Secretary of the Prince Philip Trust, Kevin McGarry Past Trustee & Secretary, Tony Moore guest of Neil Affleck, Paul Andreianu, & Rob Curtis.

·Birthdays:  None

·Almoner: Bob Pickles reported that Martyn Gorton was about to have some very specialised eye surgery and would not be able to attend for some time. The President said that he had called Martyn who appeared very upbeat considering the severity of the situation.

·Announcements: -

·RK asked all members to advise him whether or not they would be attending the Club’s 85th Anniversary Charity Dinner on 16th September if they had not already done so.

·Secretary: - None other than there would be a Council Meeting at 6.00pm on the day of the meeting at the Council offices in Eton.

·The Raffle was won by Andrew Panter who is due a bottle.

·Our Speaker was Rotarian Adrian Benge who gave a very interesting and entertaining talk

about his theatre, film and television harness making business which he runs alongside his saddlery business. He also gave a very amusing account of presenting the Queen with a special saddle he had made for her to celebrate her 90th birthday.

·The vote of thanks was given by Paul Lock who said that he had thoroughly enjoyed the talk.

The Sergeant at Arms was again absent but his undercover agent Colin was standing in for him n. Colin wanted to fine Adrian Benge for allowing his phone to ring but let him off as he was speaker.

Next meeting is Monday 22 August 12.30pm for 1.00pm.

Meeting 7 – Fellowship Meeting held on 8th August 2016 at the Castle Hotel

·The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

·The Money Taker was Geoff Kidd who also said Grace.

·RK again reminded members about the forthcoming events referred to at the previous meeting.

·Secretary: - Colin read out a thank you letter from the Mayor’s Secretary Alison Singleton sent in response of the Club’s donation to Thames Valley Hospice in memory of her husband Paul who had recently passed away.

·The Raffle was won by Philip Reynolds.

The Sergeant at Arms was again absent but his undercover agent Colin was standing in for him. He read out some interesting facts about President Nixon on ‘This day in history’.

He then fined Adrian Stabbins on two counts.1) for arriving when he had given his apologies and

2) for leaving early to move his car and then returning.

Next meeting is Monday 15th August 12.30pm for 1.00pm.

The meeting will be a Speaker Meeting. The speaker is Adrian Benge who will be talking about the harness work he does for the theatre, film and TV as well as that for the Queen’s 90th birthday celebration.

Meeting 6 – Speaker Meeting held on 1st August 2016 at the Castle Hotel

 

·        The Meeting was chaired by President Richard Kidson.

 

·        The Money Taker was Chris Simon who also said Grace.

 

·        Neil Aufflick read out the apologies:-  Paul Bayley, David Osmond, Terry Kinsley, Abbi Lewis, Philip Turner, Geoff Kidd, Paul Lock, Ralph Cooper, Derek Bishop, Laurence Slatter, Adrian Stabbins, Martyn Gorton, Philip Turner, Uma Patel, Abi Lewis & Bob Pickles.

 

·        Very late apologies were also given by Guy Barlow who arrived just as the stand in Sergeant at Arms was in full flow but did not stay long enough for him to fine him ! Lucky he had a legitimate excuse.

·        Almoner: Bob Pickles reported that all was well and that there was a Rambling Rotarians’ walk on Wednesday at Waltham St Lawrence followed by lunch afterwards at the Bell.

·        RK reported he had attended two Rotary Meetings during the week one re the 85th Anniversary Dinner and a Wash up meeting re the Summer Fayre.

·        RK gave out the following dates for some major events being held during his year.

16th September - 85th Anniversary Charity Dinner at the Castle Hotel.

18th November - PPT Presentation Dinner at Victoria Barracks.

5-6th May - PPT Jaguar Festival at Windsor Castle, Town and Racecourse.

24th June - Rotary Summer Fayre at Alexander Gardens Windsor.

It was important that these events be supported where possible.

·        Secretary: - Colin reported that as agreed at the last Council Meeting a donation was being sent to the Mayor’s Secretary Alison Singleton in support of the Thames Valley Hospice in memory of her husband Paul who had recently passed away.

 The Sergeant at Arms was again absent but his undercover agent Colin was standing in for him. Colin fined Bryan for winning the raffle again and read out some interesting events on ‘This day in history’.

·        Wednesday had been the Annual Golf Day at Eton College. This was followed by an enjoyable Dinner in the Masters Common Room. Thanks to the members that ran the event and helped with the set up etc.

·        Saturday was the Merry Wives Summer Barbeque held at Ron & Jill’s house in Eton Wick.

·        Thanks to them both and their family for hosting the event and also thanks to Ralph Cooper for spending most of the evening entertaining the guests with his ‘Game of Chance’.

·RK reported that it had been another busy Rotary week and thanked Bob Pickles for organising another excellent walking holiday in Ashdown Forest. The Windsor & Eton Opera’s Gala Performance of Carmen at the Farrer Theatre Eton College had been a great success. RK thanked all Rotarians and their wives/partners who had helped with the organisation. The performance was well received by The Earl & Countess of Wessex. The event has raised a good amount of money for The Prince Philip Trust Fund. Thanks also to the Windsor Sea Cadets who were on hand to assist with car parking etc.

·to Ashdown Forest in Sussex. The walks would take place on Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday & Thursday. Attendees would be rewarded with hearty breakfasts, good lunches and well lubricated evening meals.

·RK thanked Chris Clark for organising another Annual Barbeque and Duck Race at his boatyard in Datchet. Nearly 100 turned out for a splendid afternoon by the river.

·Secretary:- CC advised that the first council meeting of the year would be this evening at the Council Offices in Eton. 6.00pm start.

·The Raffle was won by Associate Bryan Preston.

·RK announced the Speakers Bernard Hawkes and Colin Coombs who were speaking on Rotary

·Compliance.  CC & BH gave a very interesting and informative summery of the changes in legislation that would affect the Club, its members and the way it ran and monitored its events.

·Since the meeting CC has issued his notes from the meeting and all members were asked read these as it was important that they were aware of the changes.

·RK thanked both speakers their presentation and also for attending the District Meeting where it had originated.

·Eric Malam then presented the President with a shied he had receives at a recent District Meeting.

·This had been presented to the Club for providing the largest number of attendees at the District Conference in April. This was the first time our Club had received this prize.

·RK reminded members that for three days next week the Rotary Ramblers would be visiting Ashdown Forest in Sussex and that on the Friday 15th Windsor & Eton Opera were holding their Gala Night performance.

·The first council meeting of the year would be on Monday 11th July at the Council Offices in Eton

·send them to the Secretary.

·PB then presented Laurence Slatter with a gift for attending his President’s weekend in Kefalonia

·RK announced the Speaker Adrian Greensmith the President of Windsor Mencap.

·Adrian gave a very informative illustrated presentation about the history and activities of the charity.

·It was interesting to hear about their activities and increased attendance of their members.

·The newly appointed Sergeant at Arms Paul Bayley did not issue any fines but said he had hoped to fine the new President for overrunning but was unable to!

·Announcements:- PB thanked all those who attended the Summer Fayre and Duck Race and thanked them for their support. The number of Rotarians on the day was down on previous years so those involved had to put in a lot of extra effort. PB also thanked Geoff & Denny Kidd who after a very energetic day put on a barbeque for those helping during the day.

·After the meal followed the presentation of two Paul Harris Fellowships by Rtn’s Chris Clark, Philip Reynolds & Eric Malam. The worthy recipients being Paul Bayley and Ron Lewandowski. Well done to both of them for all their hard work over the years.

·Paul Bayley then made a brief address. He then thanked the members for their support during his year and handed out some well thought out gifts to members of his team that had worked close to him.

·The Handover then followed:

·Paul Bayley gave his collar to Richard Kidson.

·Richard Kidson took the Chair, thanked Paul and handed him a Passed President’s Badge.

·Richard Kidson then presented the Senior Vice President’s collar to Bernard Hawkes.

·He then presented the Junior Vice President’s collar to Richard Carleton.

·Richard Kidson then made a brief address and outlined some of the major events that are planned

·during his year.
