Lunchtime Meeting - 12.45pm - Speaker Justin Soper

Mon, Nov 21st 2016 at 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Will Viv's speaker, Justin Soper, be dressed in his magnificent and authentic costume to give his evocation of the Siege of Oswestry when Bailey Street was in the front line and the musket balls were all too real? Come along and find out!

Justin Soper

New Club member Justin Soper is Viv's speaker today to tell us about one of his areas of special interest - 'The Siege of Oswestry 1644'.

Justin is a Committee Member of Oswestry & Border History & Archaeology Group – OBHAG.  As a historian he has a love for local and national history being particularly interested in military history from the period of the ‘Hundred Years War ‘(1346 to 1453), ‘The Wars of the Roses’ (1453 to 1487) and the ‘English Civil War/ Restoration’ period (1642 to 1685) and in particular how local and national events impacted on the lives of ordinary people living at these times.

Along with his wife Sherie, they jointly run ‘Activate History‘ providing costumed historical talks and demonstrations for groups, societies, heritage organisations and schools.

Justin is also one of the founding committee members of the Oswestry Castle Research Project that seeks with ‘Historic England’s’ permission to build upon the revent successful Heritage Open Days archaeological excavations.
