Group Study Exchange March/April 2006

It has now been confirmed that Maidenhead Thames has been selected to host the incoming GSE Team for the final 5 days of their visit to the UK, they will be returning home to Australia on Saturday 8thApril 2006.

Accommodation has already been offered by a number of Rotarians which means the Club can easily cover the commitment to host the Team.

The schedule for their visit will be agreed in the New Year and will include days at organisations appropriate to their vocations, cultural visits and time for them to relax and absorb their surroundings.

It should be a great experience for our Club and our visitors.

Shoe Boxes

Almost 500 boxes have been given out to Rotarians friends and local schools, although it is not expected to get all these back, with funds raised separately a number of additional boxes will be filled and therefore close to this number will be achieved.

Once again members of the Club have given their support, together with this four Schools have taken part in the scheme, Lowbrook School, Larchfield School, Burchetts Green and St Luke’s Schools, each of these was visited and given a short presentation during assembly which was in all cases very well received.

Over the three years that Maidenhead Thames has run this Shoe Box scheme approaching 1000 Boxes will have been sent by our Club to Countries such as Ukraine, Romania, Belarus and Croatia and have brought  joy into many young lives and some not so young.

Snow Drop Walk

Steve and Pat Harrington have kindly agreed to organise a “Snow Drop Walk” on Sunday 5th February 2006 which will end with warm food and wine at their home in Burchetts Green, details to follow.

Air Ambulance

The Club has generously added to the £175 I raised through sponsorship on the Boundary Walk, and on Thursday 1st December 05 at their base at White Waltham we will be making a presentation of £500 to the Thames Valley & Chiltern Air Ambulance Trust.
