Car Boot Sale 2016

The Public Park, High Street, Rothesay Sunday 4th September 12.30 -4.00

The Rothesay Rotary Club recently celebrated 66 years of
"Service Above Self".  The usual weekly meeting on Thursday 1 September
was transformed into a special occasion when Club members and guests
were regally entertained by Fiona Shaw accompanied by the gifted Tony
Spencer.  Fiona sang a number of very popular songs from The Musicals
including "You'll never walk alone" and "I should have danced all
night".  She was in excellent voice and received a well deserved
standing ovation.  A  delicious celebratory cake was provided by
Margaret, wife of Vice President Billy Shields.
The club responded to the recent earthquake disaster in Italy by
donating/ providing a "Shelter Box" to help alleviate the trauma of
those individuals caught up in the aftermath of this awful event.
Shelter boxes contain tented accommodation for some ten people and
provide the basic essentials for living.  This emergency facility costs
in the region of £600.  Club members were quite astonished and indeed
humbled to learn (on 1-9-16) that the cost of providing the shelter box
had been anonymously donated to the Club - the generosity of this island
community never fails to surprise!
On Sunday 4 September 2016 in glorious sunshine at The Public Park Rtn.
Alistair Robertson on behalf of the Club organised another very
successful Car Boot Sale.  Ever popular with "traders" and "punters"
alike there was bargains aplenty and the charity coffers of the Club
received a healthy boost.  At the time of writing the exact figure has
not been finalised.
The Club will complete a busy summer of community activity by providing
Stewards for the Isle of Bute Cycling weekend to be held on 17/18
September 2016.
