International secondary school quiz
International Quiz Competition
The Rotary Club of Inverness Culloden is “Twinned” with the Rotary Club of La Baule in France. Following exchange visits, to France in 2012 and Inverness in 2013, it was agreed to hold an International Quiz Competition as part of the youth/culture development between the two Clubs. The first competition took place in 2013 and has continued every year since then.
The first part of the competition takes place between the five Inverness Secondary Schools and the winner of that part goes on to represent Inverness in the International competition. This part of the competition has ten rounds – General Knowledge, History, Science, People, Sport, Environment, Geography, Music, Politics and Places – with six questions in each round. All the contestants receive a certificate and the winning team receive individual medals and a trophy for their school.
Between 2013 and 2015 the winning Inverness team played against the Lycee Grand Air in La Baule, France. From 2016 the International School in Augsburg, Germany, was included in a three-way competition.
The International quiz is undertaken by Skype and has been highly successful in linking youth in the three countries. The competition has eight rounds – General Knowledge, History, Science, People, Environment, Geography, Sport and Places - with six questions per round. The winning team has their school name entered onto a splendid glass trophy which the school keeps for a year.
