Dictionaries for Schools
In 2011, the Rotary club of Beaconsfield became involved in the Rotary International literacy program to help educate children worldwide. On a local level, the Beaconsfield club became involved with the Dictionary 4 Life project by presenting an Usborne illustrated dictionary to each of the children in year five at Holtspur School, Beaconsfield.
Since 2011 Rotary club of Beaconsfield has expanded this project annually to include three schools in Beaconsfield; - Holtspur School, Butlers Court School and St Mary's School. This year, 2016, we are pleased to announce that we have added a fourth school to the list, Tylers Green Middle School, and now all year four children in these schools are presented with the dictionaries which they can use at school and to keep as their own.
These books are much more than a basic dictionary with guidance on correct grammar and punctuation usage as well as over 1000 explanatory diagrams which were so well appreciated by students and their teachers. On Thursday, 7 July members of the Rotary club of Beaconsfield distributed 218 dictionaries with 64 going to Tylers Green Middle School children.
