The Rotary Club of Nantwich For Immediate Release August 19, 2016:
First Lady Takes Over as President of the Rotary
Club of Nantwich
Local Businesswoman Makes History
For the first time ever, the Rotary Club of Nantwich has appointed a woman as
President of the Club. Local businesswoman, Christine Crowe who has been a
member for over eight years
took the chain of office from Rod Stokes.
Said Christine: “I would like to thank Rod and all
the current committee chairs and their members for making this Rotary year such
a successful, well organised and enjoyable one. I would also like to thank all
the committee chairs and their members for agreeing to take on their various
responsibilities - without them we would not be able to achieve the amazing fund
raising and local events we continue to manage year in year out.
“For this Presidential year my Rotary Motto will be
‘Rotary Serving Humanity’; as Rotarians we are proud to serve, and a
great deal of our activities are for the good of others whether within our local
community or internationally. My goal is that everyone in and associated with
the club should have fun and laugh together and that new members will join us
from our local community.”
Said Rod Stokes: “This has been a busy year
particularly in our support of the local community. We ran several events for
our older citizens including the Christmas party. Youth was also a big focus for
our activities:- Mentoring continued at both Brine Leas and Malbank, while our
flagship project, the Primary School Art and Handwriting Competition, attracted
a record-breaking 800 entries! We also helped fund a trip to Chester Zoo for
Nantwich Primary Academy as part of Rotary Kids Out. Our International Committee
funded a clean water project in Nepal which is still recovering from the
devastating earthquake which killed more that 8,000 people. Closer to home, we
undertook several projects in conjunction with the Civic Society to help improve
the appearance of the town including a substantial hedge planting exercise along
the Waterlode, successfully planting 350 ‘whips’ in a record time of two
hours.
Founded 108 years ago, Rotary is a global network of
community volunteers. Rotary members are business and professional leaders who
provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards, and help build
goodwill and peace in the world. Some 31,000 Rotary clubs in more than 165
countries carry out service projects in their local communities and abroad to
address such critical issues as poverty, health, hunger, illiteracy and the
environment.
