Olive Geddes, our District Governor of Rotary District 1020, was the guest at tonight’s meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw.
Prior to the meeting, Olive had asked if we could give an update on any of the Club's ongoing community projects and the Community and Vocational Convenor, Katrina Gibbons, gave a short presentation on Furniture for Families which supplies second hand furniture and white goods to families in need. Olive congratulated the Club on this unique venture for Rotary.
She brought the Rotary International message to the club of "Rotary Serving Humanity" and to that end having a final push to eradicate polio. She said it was up to every member, Club and District, throughout the world, to support the campaign to rid the world of polio.
Olive described Rotary as a global network of worldwide volunteers, a vibrant service organisation that requires a huge infusion of new blood to ensure its continued success, encouraging all Clubs within the District to build on their current membership. Olive informed members of two personal stories that brought home to her what Rotary was all about.
In conclusion, Olive presented club member Ian Carrol with a certificate to mark his involvement with RYLA - the Rotary Youth Leadership Award – as he has stepped down after twenty years involvement.'What We Do' Main Pages:
