Oswestry's Rotary Club's Plant Together

Mon, Oct 31st 2016 at 3:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Oswestry Club's final crocus planting on Morda Road.

(L-R) Justin Soper, Oswestry Rotary, Paul Milner, Town Mayor and Cambrian Rotary, Sherie Soper, Borderland Rotary and David Gordon, Oswestry Rotary.

At their final session on Morda Road, Oswestry's Rotary clubs finished planting purple crocus bulbs under the town's `Welcome‘ signs to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Rotary Club’s own charity The Rotary Foundation.

The purple crocus is a symbol of Rotary’s worldwide campaign to eradicate polio, with its colour representing the purple dye used to mark the finger of a child who has been immunised.  The Foundation is behind the drive which has succeeded in all but two countries.

By highlighting the coloured symbol it is hoped to spread awareness of the Foundation’s drive and generate the funds needed to complete the eradication of one of the world’s worst diseases.

Pictured at the planting session in Morda Road are;  Justin Soper, Oswestry Rotary, Paul Milner, Town Mayor and Cambrian Rotary, Sherie Soper, Borderland Rotary and David Gordon, Oswestry Rotary.  Sherie and David are the Chairs of their Club’s Foundation committees
