 INTERNATIONAL EVENING

 Friday 10th March 2017

With Guest Speaker Gail Stuart  Daughter of Comedian Eric Morecambe

Gail Stuart will talk about her father, and tell a variety of funny stories recounting life with Eric Morecambe. Gail was born on 14 September 1953, and is the daughter of Joan Bartlett and Eric Morecambe.  She grew up in Harpenden, and was a keen horse rider throughout her teens and part of her adult life. Gail worked as a fully trained nursery nurse, school teacher and victim support assistant.  She is also a talented artist, and also writes children's stories.

The Evening is to Support the Jaipur Limb Project

In many developing countries there are tens of thousands of people who suffer as a result of amputated or deformed limbs. The causes of this misery are many, but include birth defects, communicable diseases such as leprosy and polio, non-communicable diseases such as vascular disorders and diabetes, snake bites, and traumatic injuries as a result of accidents, natural disasters and armed conflict.  With severe limitations to what they are able to do, people disabled in this way become a burden to families who already have very meagre resources, and are often condemned to spend their lives begging on the streets.

Rotarian Roger Neuberg of Oadby Rotary Club will speak on the aims of Rotary Jaipur Limb Project, which raises funds to finance limb camps and limb centres in Africa, the Indian sub-continent and other areas of the world in need of help, as determined by the trustees.  This is achieved through donations from Rotary clubs, Inner Wheel clubs, other organisations and private individuals.  In its 32 year history successful projects have been carried out in Benin, Ghana, Haiti, India, The Ivory Coast, Kenya, Malawi, Nepal, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sri Lanka and Tanzania.

Venue:- Northampton Marriott Hotel, Eagle Drive, Northampton, NN4 7HW.

7.00p.m. for 7.30p.m.   Dress Code – Smart Casual.    RSVP 25th February 2017

Menu choices – Duck pate served with toast and onion marmalade followed by Roasted breast of chicken set on mash potato topped with caramelized shallots and Madeira jus or (V) Homemade tomato and basil soup, followed by Asparagus and leek risotto with white wine and cream, and a choice of Sticky toffee pudding with fresh custard, Fresh cream profiteroles with chocolate sauce or Fresh fruit salad with blackcurrant sorbet, Coffee, Tea and mints.

International Evening – 10 March

Including our principal speaker, Gail Stuart and Roger and Ruth Neuberg who came from the Oadby and Wigston Club to explain the work of Jaipur Limb, our chosen charity for the event, 82 of us sat down to dinner for the International Evening at the Marriott Hotel, Eagle Drive on Friday 10th March.  This is, of course, traditionally a joint event with Inner Wheel, and I and all the members of the International Committee are appreciative of the support of everyone who helped with the organisation, bought tickets, brought along friends and donated raffle prizes.
