Rotary Shoebox Appeal 2016/17

.

Elgin Rotary this year, submitted 385 filled shoeboxes to the Shoebox Appeal.

Every year, shoeboxes are filled with various items for babies, children, adults and families.  The boxes are filled with anything from toys, toiletries, games, clothing etc and are sent to Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria to name but a few.

For some of the beneficiaries of the boxes these are the only gift they may recieve not just this year, but also in their lives.

This year, boxes were filled and donated by Rotarians of Elgin Rotary, Rotaract Moray, Royal Bank of Scotland, Elgin High School, St Margarets Church, Lossiemouth and Mosstowie Primary School in Elgin.

Early 2017 it was the turn of New Elgin PS to fill a further 94 shoeboxes that will be sent on to the same location.   The whole school were involved in donating the contents for the boxes, but it was the P5 pupils from the newly formed New Elgin Primary School RotaKids Club who set about filling the boxes with items suitable for young children in poor or deprived areas of Eastern Europe.    Having filled the boxes, they then went on to decorate the outside of the boxes in the hope that they could give some additional happiness to those less fortunate children who will receive them.

Sandy, Club President said that the pupils of New Elgin P5 had done an excellent job in this their Club’s inaugural year in using the concept of the youngest branch of Rotary – RotaKids – to engage with communities both locally and internationally through the projects they undertake.

The kids are showing fantastic enthusiasm and wear their tabards with great enjoyment and pride.   They are a credit to the Rotary movement.
