REME Charity Band Concert

Saturday 20th January 2007

This year's REME Band Concert was the first that we have had the Band Master compiling and conducting the whole programme rather than the Director of Music due to their interregnum between the departure of our friend Maj. Ian Peaple and the new Director, Capt. Darren Wolfendale , officially taking over, although he was observing in the audience. He can have been nothing but very pleased with the superb performance produced by the Bandmaster, WO1 Mark Evans. We have had nothing but praise remarked on the evening.

We were given a highly polished and varied evening of music which was thoroughly enjoyable from the rousing overture ( HRH Duke of Cambridge March) right through to the finale. Each item was different from it`s predecessor and taken from composers around the World, but the whole mixed cleverly together to make a harmonious whole.

All three soloists were outstandingly proficient and demonstrated their considerable expertise . Unfortunately they are all leaving the Band and they will be sorely missed.

We really cannot thank the REME Band enough for giving us their time and talent for yet another outstandingly enjoyable evening, which has had the additional advantage of raising over £3000 for our charities.

We must also thank sincerely all the members of the Club and others who contributed to making this year`s concert such an outstanding success.

Next year`s concert has been arranged for Saturday 19th.January at Bearwood Theatre. This will be under the command of their new Director of Music so it will be interesting to see what he can up with. He has a hard act to follow but I am sure he will be happy to surprise us.
