ROTARY YOUNG CHEF COMPETITION

On Saturday the 14th January at Les Quennevais School 13 student from three of the Islands Secondary Schools competed in the local final of the National Rotary Young Chef competition.

The object of the competition is for each student to devise a healthy three course menu for two people, which must cost no more than £15. They had to cook and present their food in two hours and were judged by a panel of three judges made up of professional chefs.

As well as being judged on taste, presentation and kitchen hygiene the judging panel also assessed the students on their choice in supporting healthy eating.

The winner of the Jersey Dairy was Sophie Robinson (left) and Isabella Birtwistle (right) won the Genuine Jersey trophy for the student judged to have made best use of local produce.

Sophie Robinson will then go on to compete in the District Final where she will be facing the winners of other local heats from Hampshire, Wiltshire and Guernsey.

Roger Bougeard President of the Rotary Club of Jersey commented “Once again Rotary are very pleased to be supporting the Young Chef, and with the competition now in its 4th year.

Once again we are very grateful our sponsors the Channel Islands Co-operative society for providing vouchers to purchase the food and for sponsoring the travel to the District final and also to Mercury Distribution who have sponsored the Chefs wear for all the competitors.
