Sanjiv's parents came to West Yorkshire from the Punjab in 1960! I was born and brought up in Halifax, I left school aged 16 and joined the Royal Army Medical Corps to be trained as a forensic science technician.
I went on to spend three years as a sales manager in the clothing industry working with designer brand clients. I have now been with the BBC for 28 years, starting my career with Radio Leeds as their specialist Bradford reporter based in the city.
In 2000 I joined the BBC Asian Network as their north of England correspondent, before moving to Radio 5Live and then Radio 4 with the 'file on four' programme where I won a prestigious Sony Gold award for investigative journalism.
I then moved to the world service and newsgathering living and working in South Asia and the Middle East. I moved back to the UK in 2012 as deputy editor at Radio LANCASHIRE, in 2014 I became editor at Radio YORK, and then in 2015 I 'came back home' as Managing Editor with Radio LEEDS which is the third largest BBC stations in England.
