2017 Burns Night

Our annual celebration of the life and works of Robert Burns held jointly with Helensburgh Rotary Club

President Sheenah Nelson welcomed Rotarians and guests to our annual Burns Supper and introduced the evening's performers.

The Haggis was piped in by Colin Lawrie and then addressed in splendid style by Lola Bell from Cardross Primary School. The guests were hugely impressed by Lola's recital to the 'Great chieftain o' the puddin-race' accompanied by magnificent gestures.

Rhona Mackinnon and Christopher Gailey (also from Cardross Primary School) then gave a superb recitation of 'Tam O'Shanter' without the slightest stumble and again gave great delight to the guests.

After dinner guests were entertained by the beautiful singing of Elspeth Davis accompanied by Anne Binnie and listened intently to humerous toasts to Scotland delivered by Iain MacLean and to the Lassies by Ernest Bennie. Needless to say the Lassies had the last word when Annette Garrick replied!

The evening was concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by President Bill Jones from Helensburgh Rotary Club, and the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
