Banffshire Cycle Challenge: Sunday 28th May 2017

Banffshire Cycle Challenge Sunday 28th May, 2017

We were concerned about the heat the day before this year's Cycle Challenge, but Sunday dawned a great deal cooler and with a strong wind. The grey clouds were low as 205 riders took to the course.

As predicted, and despite the weather,  a record number of groups took part, including a contingent from Elgin High School who raised over £300 for their up-coming trip to Zambia.  Riders from Banff Academy also rode to help fund their trip to Tanzania.  The Deveron Swimmers, Macduff Scouts, the Banff Brownies and the Banff Boys Brigade all took to their cycles.

The event has, of course a very important objective, and that was for all the groups and individual riders to raise money for a wide range of good causes.  The Deveron Amateur Swimming Club thoroughly enjoyed their morning and raised £532.  Not bad for a mornings work!

Hazel Patterson and Kylie Gordon cycled from Inverurie to take part.  They did really well on the long course – but then had to ride all the way back to Inveruries!

Just over £5,000 has been raised and that will go to a variety of charities including Marie Curie Cancer Care and Cancer Research UK.  It really is a fabulous result.

We would like to say a huge thank you to so many people who have been working behind the scenes to make this event not just a success, but a safe and enjoyable event.  There have been countless people out there over recent days trimming verges and erecting signs along the course.  Our friends from Inner Wheel and Round Table gave up their Sunday morning lie-in to be here early to help us get registration set up and help with the marshaling.

A huge thank you must go to our sponsors including our main sponsor Benzies of Turriff.
