Cliff was a highly respected and dearly loved member of Brigg Rotary Club; he was President in 1991-92 and served as secretary for many, many, years. He brought wisdom, knowledge of Rotary and a wealth of experience to his roll and was an ever-present support to all members. Cliff died in the town's general hospital at the age of 83.
Cliff was a newspaperman through and through and spent almost 50 years in the newspaper
profession,
all his working life, in and around the local newspapers.
He started at the bottom as an apprentice with Brigg Star and went on to make regional
newspaper history by combining the use of a hot metal Linotype machine and
the latest computer technology. He had the distinction of
being the last man to operate a Linotype 'hot metal' typesetting machine for
the Telegraph
In 1989, Cliff went on to become a sports and news journalist with the Scunthorpe Telegraph and was a keen supporter of local football, particularly Brigg and Scunthorpe Town. He was known as a human dictionary and retired in 1998.
Cliff had been unwell in recent years but his passing will be a great sadness to all his many friends from so many walks of life. Our condolences go out to Olga, Susan, Andrew and Joya at this time.
