This poem was written by Mike Law to comemorate the Metal Detecting Event on the 12th Feb 2017.

With my metal detector tucked under my arm.  All along, out along, down along lea.  I set off on Sunday to John Abbey's farm.  With Sheena, Roger, Delwyn, with Lyn and with Helen, Keith, Brian and Gethin - uncles Barry and Geoffrey an all, uncles Barry and Geoffrey and all.

By jove it was parky, in fact bloddy cold. All along, out along, down along lea. Just like when in the Yukon, I prospected for gold. With Sheena, Roger .......

And what was the treasure I hacked from the ground?  All along, out along, down along lea. A sixpence, a washer, a tin can I found. With Sheena, Roger.......

So I'm not going home as a very rich man. All along, out aong, down along lea.  But that wasn't the purpose, that wasn't the plan.  The riches lay not in the puddles and mud but in collecting for ShelterBox as much as we could - and we did!  With Sheena, Roger, Delwyn, with Lyn and Helen, with Keith, Brian, Gethin - uncles Barry and Geoffrey and all, uncles Barry and Geoffrey and all.

The Leeks of My Fathers (sung to song Land of My Fathers)

The leeks of my country, so precious to me, the ampeloprasum grow wild and free. Whilst scorodoprasum, matured in the sand, makes soup called cawl cennin the best in the land.  Leek, leek, feed me on nothing but leek!  In deeply dug soil, well-matured, little toil and nourished with nitrates-unique.

The leeks of my country the veggies of Wales and planted six-inch deep in valleys and dales.  Afine winter's crop, a most challenging plant, a test for our soldiers on Gwyl Dewi Sant.  Leek, leek, feed me on nothing but leek!  In deeply dug soil, well-matured, little toil and nourished with nitrates-unique.
