Weekly Meeting 20 February 2017

25 members of the Rotary club of Deal  were joined for lunch by four guests at the club’s weekly meeting at Dunkerleys restaurant. Guests were Lorin LaFave, Simon Pollard, Alice Bates and our old friend the Rev John Lines.

During the meeting, President Paul Robbins had the honour of inducting Lorin as the latest new member of  Deal Rotary.

During the meeting Marlene Burnham informed members that a Quiz Night had been arranged at the Alma public house in West Street on March 17th and tickets can be purchased at the door on the night.  She has also arranged a charity Fashion Show at M & Co’s store in the High Street on April 6th

Past President Peter Rothschild updated members on arrangements for the club’s highly popular  Race Night which will be held on March 9th with  profits going to help Deal Foodbank.

This week’s 200 club draw resulted in an unallocated number being drawn. The 200 club  raises much needed funds for the club to donate to local causes and each October, a special event is held at which the star prize is a cheque for £5,000.  There are still a few places left if anyone wants to join the 200 club and details can be obtained from the club direct.

The President is arranging a charity walk from Sandwich back to Dumkerleys restaurant to raise money to help local good  causes .  Paul explained that other members and supporters would be able to join the walk at various points along the 8 mile route and raised money for their own preferred charity or good cause.

Rotarian Ken Cox advised members of a highly successful event held by the inner wheel club of Deal on Saturday the 18th February  which raised around £1,000 for British heart foundation, a marvellous achievement!

Colin Richards confirmed arrangements for the end Polio collection which will take place on Friday of this week in the high street. Finally, the club will be collecting for Marie Curie organization on the 8th April outside Sainsburys.

The weekly wine draw was won President Paul Robbins who donated the bottle to the prizes for the Deal hospital fete.

President Paul Robbins welcomes the first intake of three new members in 2017 (Dick Doyle, Lorin LaFave and Iain Brown) together with their respective sponsors - plus guests Alice Bates and Simon Pollard
