Waitrose Rotary Christmas Raffle Raises more than £200 for Charity The Rotary Club of Sandbach Crosses joined forces with the Rotary Club of Sandbach and Sandbach Inner Wheel to man a ‘soft toy’ stand at Waitrose, Sandbach last Thursday (22nd December) to raise money for the three Presidents’ charities, Marie Curie, The Heart Foundation and the Stroke Association. Waitrose shoppers were invited to enter a raffle for one of three ‘small’ soft toys, a lion, a tiger and an elephant; they were also invited to guess the name of the large bear soft toy which was the centrepiece of the stand. The stand was manned until 8pm. The Waitrose Store Duty Manager Victoria Hall was then invited to choose the name of the bear and to draw the winning raffle tickets. Sandbach Crosses Rotary Club President Arnie Laing said: ‘We are very grateful to Waitrose for allowing us to carry out this charity fund-raiser in the store. It’s also been great to work together on this with our fellow Sandbach Rotary Club and Sandbach Inner Wheel. The shoppers entered into what was hopefully a bit of fun with good spirit, albeit for three very worthy causes. We also promoted the Christmas tree recycling service which we’re carrying out for St Lukes Hospice over the weekend of 7th January 2017. Today we’ve raised over £200; the final figure will be higher as a number of shoppers donated generously without bidding for the bear! I’ve just rung to inform the four winners and they were all very excited to have won!’ The winner of the bear was Margaret Proudlove who correctly guessed Bruno as his name. The winners of the three other soft toys were Rick Bradfield (lion), Ffion Roberts (tiger) and Ruby Humphrey (elephant).
