Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Club members please log in for more information.

Every year Rotary Leeds sponsors one or more 16 or 17 year old students to attend a one week Rotary Youth Leadership Awards course at Hebden Hey. Students are required to present a report after their course to their sponsoring Rotary club.

Thomas Latham  and Rebecca Burrell, who attended a course in early August 2017, described the various challenging activites involved, among them bridge building, traversing a river, bivouacking out overnight, coracle and raft building and mountain rescue.

In their presentation they listed what they had gained from their RYLA experience:

friendship
service above self
trust
confidence
amazing memories
to embrace challenge
never to be afraid to ask for help
everyone learns differently and that is OK
what it takes to be a good leader - leadership skills

Like so many before them, they affirmed the positive life-changing nature of Rotary RYLA courses.
