Rotary Young Musicians, local heat

One of the heats for the this Rotary competition was recently held at Kenilworth School

Young Musician

On Thursday 19th January, several our Rotary club members, as well as Rotarians from Warwick Avon, Southam, and Leamington Spa Regency, met at Kenilworth Upper School hall for the Rotary Young musician competition. It was hosted by Reg Grogan of the Warwick Avon club.

Five participants took part – there were due to be six, however one had to withdraw due to an accident earlier in the day. This prevented her taking part as she had damaged her arm that was vital for playing the violin! She was one of the Kenilworth School representatives who had been nominated by our Rotary Club.

There were two vocalists, a violinist, a viola player, and a double bass player. The standard was very good indeed and the judging was excellent. The conclusion was that a vocalist and the double bass player qualified for entry to the next round of the competition. This will be at Old Swinford Hospital school in March.

Peter Roberts, District Governor, gave a good speech thanking the participants, judge and organiser.

It was an enjoyable evening; our thanks go to all concerned in putting on this excellent event.
