Evening out for elderly people

EVENING OUT FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE

A record number of people from retirement homes together with their carers enjoyed a very pleasant evening. On a beautiful sunny evening, the ladies and gentlemen were picked up from their homes by our team of drivers and taken for a trip around the countryside ( mostly around Stonyhurst and the Ribble Valley) before arriving back at  Lammack Methodist Church Hall where a very appetizing supper had been prepared for them.

After enjoying a cup of tea with the salmon and ham open sandwiches, beef and pork pies and delicious home-made cakes, they enjoyed a very lively performance of humour and music in the barber-shop tradition.

Many of the elderly people commented on how much they had enjoyed the evening and this was evident from watching them tap out the beat when the entertainers were singing. Thanks must go to the members who acted as drivers, provided the food, and helped with all the arrangements, particularly to Val who co-ordinated the whole evening and arranged for the entertainment. Once again we were indebted to John and Sheila Brown for arranging the use of the Church Hall and for their invaluable help on the evening.

This annual event is an excellent example of 'Rotary in Action' so congratulations to everyone who was involved in any way.
