Saddleworth Ind. - Talk by Aimee Belmore

SADDLEWORTH INDEPENDENT EDITOR IS GUEST SPEAKER AT ROTARY CLUB

Aimee Belmore(Centre) with Husband Alan and Saddleworth Rotary Vice President Barbara Howse.

Aimee Belmore, Editor of Saddleworth Independent and her Husband, Parish Councillor, Alan, were Guests of Honour at Saddleworth Rotary Club on 29th March. Aimee gave a fascinating and thought-provoking talk about her career in journalism and, in particular, her experiences as Owner and Editor of our local newspaper - The Saddleworth Independent. Born and bred in Saddleworth and still living in Greenfield, Aimee took over the newspaper in 2013 and then inaugurated another local publication, The Mossley Chronicle in 2016.

The Saddleworth Independent most certainly is not following the trend of many other publications with decreasing circulations. Indeed, it is going from strength to strength - with a current circulation of approximately 20,000. This is not surprising "news" as the Saddleworth Independent is clearly a true community paper and is packed with local news, events, commentary and stories. Most notable recently has been the "Mystery Man on the Moor - Neil Dovestone" coverage and the Diggle Village victory over the plans for the new Saddleworth School.

Aimee was particularly welcomed and appreciated at Saddleworth Rotary Club as she is a real friend of the Club - always covering any Rotary stories and publicising any forthcoming events. On this particular occasion, she spoke to a packed house in the Library at The White Hart, fully engrossing the entire audience - who had plenty of questions for Aimee, of course!

Saddleworth Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at The White Hart, Lydgate, over a meal and usually has Speakers at its meeting on the last Wednesday in the month. If you would like to find our more about your local Rotary Club please check our website on www.tsrc.co.uk

Or, indeed,  if you would like to attend a meeting, please contact our Secretary on 07778 160008. You would be made very welcome.
