The Rotary Club of Garstang & Over Wyre is proud to support The Rotary Foundation
The Rotary Foundation is Rotary’s own charity which is used to provide funds for charitable projects throughout the world. Clubs and individuals contribute to the Foundation which then has funds to support the various projects that Rotary, and its constituent Clubs, are engaged in.
The largest single project supported by the Foundation is Polio Eradication. In 1985, Rotary International and other NGOs launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. At that time, there were 350,000 cases of the disease in 125 countries. Through a worldwide programme of vaccination over 99% of cases have been eradicated and in 2016 there were just three counties that had cases of polio. Of course, the vaccination programme must continue throughout the world to prevent recurrence where polio has been eradicated.
The Rotary Foundation also supports Clubs to undertake projects in their own locality. In 2016, the Foundation provided substantial grants to help recovery in parts of our area that had been damaged by the folds of December 2015.
Some of the funds collected by our Club support the work of the Foundation which in turn has supported many of the projects that our Club has undertaken.
