Speaker - Tiffany Chaisson - Fairways

Tue, Apr 24th 2018 at 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Tiffany Chaisson, of Fairways, a non- profit organisation helping promote golf for disadvantaged children in several countries, gave a talk to Kilrymont St Andrews Rotary Club.
Tiffany explained that the goal of Fairways was to help juniors whose families are in economic hardship become connected in the game of golf through sponsored membership, lessons, tournaments and access to practice facilities.
Tiffany started playing golf herself in 2014 and through travelling saw the struggle of youngsters in some poorer countries.
In 2016 she set up Fairways in four countries, Bolivia, Nepal, India and also in Canada where she lived.
The organisation pays golf businesses and professionals directly to develop children's interest in golf. It's about their passion to play and not necessarily about talent.
She gave examples of youngsters in Nepal and Bolivia who had benefited from the group's efforts.
Fairways seek funding from online sponsorship and 3rd party events such as the Dawn2 Dusk challenge and Awesome 4somes.
Tiffany is doing the Dawn2Dusk event in June for the third year and hopes to play 120 holes in one day after doing 111last year.
The Awesome 4somes started in June 2017 and now involves 50 courses in six countries donating tee times which are then sold at 65% to raise funds for Fairways.
Tiffany said the group's forward strategy was the development of young people's employment in the golf industry, scholarships and expansion into other countries such as South Africa and Jamaica.
