Rotary club of Stirling, meeting of 18th August.
President Stewart Wilson welcomed members to a business meeting to discuss matters arising from last week's club council. The club will meet next Friday when the speaker will be Anne Cockburn reporting back on her recent trip to Ghana. Members were asked to note that we will meet on Thursday 7th September, 6.30 for 7 pm, and that there will be no meeting on Friday 8th September.
As part of our programme for the coming year we hope to hold a golf AM/AM on 25th May 2018, and our charity collection at the Thistle centre will be on Sat 9th December when we will be joined by the Salvation Army band.
The club raised £1782 net at Gardening Scotland, from which donations will be made to Parkinsons Scotland and Start up Stirling. We intend to take part in the shoe box collection again, the boxes being filled by our members and two local schools who have taken part in recent years.
Secretary Crawford Gordon reported that we support Dundee as the venue for next years 1010 district conference. We now have dates for this years Gavel competition, our first opponents being Alloa. Sports convener Dr John Rankin gave the dates for the last two golf events of the year. 30th August the Rose bowl at Dullater, and the Autumn Quaich 12th September at Shotts.
The club will continue to be involved in maintaining the plants at Stirling station, and driving the Arion bus taking youngsters to swimming.
