Andrew, a recently retired Micheldean GP and car nut, came and talked to us about his passion in life. Surprisingly, it wasn't medicine or his family, it was a certain noisy motor car (at least the older ones) built in Stuttgart.

Every summer Porsche organise a weekend at the world famous Circuit de la Sarthe outside Le Mans to celebrate their successes at the world famous race which has taken place since 1923, and, guess what, lots of fans from around the world attend but mainly from the UK.

Apparently, the organisers would like it to copy the Goodwood revival weekend, where people dress up in period costume. Photographic evidence from the excellent slide show would indicate that they have a long way to go in that respect. The people there seemed to be primarily interested in the cars there.

Long may it continue.

Of course, one of the great bonuses of going to an event such as this in France is getting there. Andrew obviously has done this quite a few times and knows all the best bits, such as the Brittany Ferries A la Carte restaurants and the small hotels, coupled with quiet roads, which make motoring a pleasure again. That soon ends when you disembark at Portsmouth again!
