Amy-Beth Miah - Young Scot Volunteer of the Year 2017

Thu, Aug 31st 2017 at 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Amy-Beth telling us of her past experience in Senegal and what drives her to return shortly. Thanks Amy-Beth, amazing presentation.
Still time to help folks - see Details.

Following Amy-Beth's superb talk last Thursday some of you may wish to contribute to the YMCA's crowdfunding appeal for funds to pay for her trip back to Senegal - here is the link -

Amy - Beth lives and works in Kilmarnock and was educated at St. Joseph's Academy. In 2012 she was named as The Young Ambassador for Scotland by the Prince's Trust. More recently, this year she has been named as Young Scot Volunteer of the Year. In January of this year she did a 3 month placement for the International Citizenship Service at the YMCA in Ziguinchor, the second biggest city in Senegal. While there, she saw the huge need for a refuge for young Senegalese single mothers and their children and became driven to try and set up something along these lines. Through her contacts, Kilmarnock YMCA has partnered with YMCA Senegal.

Amy-Beth will talk of her experience in Senegal and of her visit there next month and what she hopes to do there concerning a women's refuge.
