April + May's Diary

Penultimate instalment from Dave

This months edition relates to April and May, as our editor had a well earned rest in Crete last month.

This was a busy time with KBJ travelling, meeting other Rotarian’s and arranging the Rotary Foundation’s 100th year anniversary celebrations.

This event will be held at the Portland Sailing Academy on the 11th June with people from other clubs at lunch time, with guest speakers and I am led to believe over 100 people will attend.

We have been busy supporting other clubs (Casterbridge), helping with marshalling the first Dorchester Marathon on the 28th May, which was a well organised and fun event with over 1000 runners. A good start to what should be a very successful annual event.

On the 27th May I held a small garden party at my house and thank all of you who attended and raised £80 for shelter box.

On May 30th, the club visited a new museum on Portland, reminding us of the D-day invasion and showing us the role of Portland during WW2, and the sacrifices of many.

We had a interesting job talks from Gary on his role at the young offenders institute and its current use, as well as Jayne on running her Nursery, what it takes to provide such a flexible service to the Portland Community.

Following a small meeting with myself, Pat, and Gary we chose this years community award winner and the name and details we be announced soon….

June will be my last edition of the president’s diary so keep it up so I can write nice things about us…

(President David)
