Dinner - Speakers Lee Brownson & Chris Walkinshaw - The Auckland Project

Tue, Mar 20th 2018 at 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Our guests provided an excellent and extremely informative overview of this tremendous project. Both were very impressive as they provided seamless details of the different developments that are coming to the area, complemented by descriptions of the artefacts and paintings that gave members a real understanding of the significance and historical importance of this project.

They talked about Kynren, the spectacular live action show which has been a great hit amongst the visitors and how they are looking to have daytime events.

They highlighted the success of the Mining Art Gallery, brought to life by artists including Norman Cornish, Tom McGuiness, Bob Olley and Ted Holloway.

Plans for the walled garden and the deer park impressed the members and their curiosity was satisfied by an outline of the symbolic significance of the towering structure presently being built in the market place.

Plans for the actual castle would certainly restore it to its former grandeur and be a home for the Zurbaran paintings and future plans with the Prado Museum in Madrid would further strengthen the international links between the two venues.

The project is also designed to assist the local economy with grand plans for the infrastructure, jobs, training and strengthening community pride through the recruitment of significant numbers of volunteers.
