At the lunchtime meeting fellow Rotarian Joe Headon spoke to the club members at their latest meeting to update them on developments in St Andrews West.
Joe, a local developer, updated talks that he had given to the club in 2004 and 2009 by summarizing the various studies and reports that had been carried out in relation to developing the West St Andrews area He mentioned the Strategic Plans for Tayside and Fife and gave a brief history of the plans to develop a new Madras College. Studies into the impact of this large development to ensure that a balanced development ensued had concluded that thirty percent of affordable houses were needed in the development.
Joe indicated that a planning application for the new relief road had been lodged with Fife Council and it was anticipated that the application for planning permission for a new Madras College would be lodged in early 2018. Joe anticipated that if the planning process went well work on the relief road and the school would begin in 2018 with the first houses being started in 2019.
Joe had looked at several modern developments in Scotland and England to gain ideas but was also mindful of older well regarded Scottish developments. He anticipated that the completed development would contain a mix of styles and he was keen that they produced a final development that would enhance St Andrews.
After a series of questions from members, Rotarian Alan Constable thank Joe for an interesting and informative update of a plan that has been in discussion for many years.
