Vocational Talk - Bruce Lamond

The weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy was held on March 6th at the Dean Park Hotel. President Dallas Mechan welcomed 22 members of the club on a day suffering from the aftermath of the “Beast from the East”..

President Dallas reported that the Visioning development Team had had their first meeting and would soon report back to the club on its views as to the future direction of the Kirkcaldy Club. Zahid Mukhtar spoke about the Champagne and Jazz Evening to be held at Fife College on Friday May 11^th 2018; food by a celebrity chef, wines by Veuve Cliquot and creative cocktails.

The main speaker was Bruce Lamond who gave his vocation talk. Bruce was born and brought up in Blairgowrie and has happy memories of berry picking in his younger days. He initially worked in Dundee for a travel agent and moved to Fife seventeen years ago. A year ago he resigned as sales director and set up his own travel business, Family World”. Currently there are five employees and growing rapidly. With 26 million UK resident holidaying abroad in 1996 rising to 77 million in 2017 it surprising that the major travel companies are going bust and having difficulties. The secret of the success of “Family World” is its ability to offer bespoke vacations as opposed to the bog standard offerings of its larger competitors.

Even though Bruce is a new member of the Kirkcaldy Rotary Club he previously was a member of Kirkcaldy Raith Rotary Club, a breakfast club. With the Raith club he was particularly successful in the fund raising activities, he expressed a hope that he could be equally successful with his new club..
