Seniors Day

The Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy meeting held on the 29^th May was the annual Seniors Day. This is a relatively new concept within the club and involves inviting residents and carers from local care homes to attend the lunch. There were a total of 48 in attendance with 24 being guests.

8 care homes attended the lunch and this included; Abbeyfield Kirkcaldy Society, Bennochy Care Home, Wilby House, Methven House, Abbotsford Raith Manor Care Home, Marchmont Care Home, Adam House and Abbotsford Care Home Milton Road.

SVP was standing in for President Dallas and presidents business included a reminder that kids Out will be on the 12^th June, the Club assembly on the 19^th June, and the handover on the 26^th June. SVP Robert also brought to attention that the Ingolstadt visit was taking place later in the week, and if any Members wanted to join in on any of the activities they were to inform him.

Secretaries announcements followed with Swapan mentioning that the Club Council meeting would be held on the 11^th June, and on the 23^rd June Swapan will be organising a fellowship/fundraising barbeque which will be held at Zahid’s house.

The Club had organised for a duo from Glasgow to provide a musical experience for the guests. Bulgarians Svetlina Stoyanova and Kristina Yorgova both Masters Students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland have been performing together since 2013 and have done numerous concerts and recordings throughout the UK and Bulgaria as well as being part of the Live Music Now scheme.

The Duo had unfortunately left a power lead for their keyboard behind, however they were not to be defeated and soon came back from the retail park with a brand new keyboard. Svetlina being a Masters in Opera had the most amazing voice and soon had the audience spellbound. The variety of the performance was staggering too; after starting with ‘Over the Rainbow’ Svetlina went on to sing songs from France, Russia, Bulgaria and of course ‘My Love is like a Red Red Rose’ from Scotland. While singing Svetlina engaged fully with the audience moving round the tables and making eye contact with all the guests. Even those that were wheelchair bound were jiggling their legs as best they could.

The Duo apologised for the quality of the keyboard, however I don’t think any of the guests noticed anything other than perfection at its best.

In the vote of thanks Sharon Munro said she wished they could come back again next week, this was a sentiment felt by all. Sharon also thanked Swapan for all the work he puts in to preparing the Seniors Day.
