Iain Smith: Douglas Nicol - Trip to Jerusalem

Thu, Sep 21st 2017 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Weekly meeting with guest speaker

Hawick Rotary Club members were taken on a visual visit to the Holy Land and Jerusalem on Thursday night when Past President Iain Smith introduced the Rev Douglas Nichol of Ruberslaw, Hobkirk and Southdean churches to give an excellent, illustrated talk of a recent trip there with a like-minded group of friends.  The travel itinerary arrangements were done independently and went well without a hitch.  He described Israel and the differences between them and elsewhere in the region.  They stayed in the Lutheran Guest House in the centre of Jerusalem and visited most of the Holy sites including the 4th century Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Wailing Wall, Sea of Galilee, swam in the Dead Sea, the Holocaust Museum and the Great Mosque of the Arabs.  The talk was thoroughly appreciated by the members after which President Scott Elliot gave a warm vote of thanks.  Several members are planning to attend the District Conference at Newcastle at the end of October when members from all over the South of Scotland meet and exchange ideas and promote the friendship of Rotary.
