Annual - Young Linguist Awards 2019
Barrhead and St Luke's pupils' linguistic talents rewarded at Focus on Language Evening
Wednesday 17th April
The Garden Cafe, Barrhead
A handful of teens from the town’s two high schools received Young Linguists awards from Barrhead Rotary.
Both School's pupils were the recipients of these foreign language excellence awards. This annual event was held this year in the Garden Cafe, Fereneze Garden Centre. Barrhead Rotary members, pupils, teachers and parents met for a meal followed by presentations to the 4 prize winners, Erin McCafferty (French), Maria McEwan (French), Jodie Miller (Italian) and Aderinsolas Olukoya (French). Each pupil then delivered a small presentation in their chosen language.
Barrhead High Head Teacher, Andy Sinclair said "We are delighted to have been invited again this year to share in the presentations and success of our pupils. Barrhead High has had a long-standing connection with Barrhead Rotary and we hope to continue building on that relationship in the future".
St Luke's Deputy Head, Matt Giroux, commented "I am happy to be here this evening for the first time as Deputy Head and pleased to see that there is this historic relationship with Barrhead Rotary, who continue to support and award our pupils’ achievements year after year. Rotary has worked with the schools over the years, giving recognition i.e. Young Citizen and Rotary Leadership Awards.
Current President, Angela Samson, said “I know that I speak on behalf of all of the members of Barrhead Rotary, who are delighted to be presenting these awards again this year. We work with the schools and within the Barrhead Community to support good causes. My thanks also go to Rev. Pamela Gordon, Barrhead Rotary Youth Co-ordinator and The Garden Cafe who opened their premises to us and met our catering needs.
