Nurses Fans of Howe Rotary Club!

Three members of the Howe of Fife Rotary Club were recently orthopaedic patients in Ward 10, based in the original block of Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy.

The three Rotarians – Oliver Will, John Ewan and Andre Hawryliw -  were so impressed by the wonderful care they received that they decided to do something to help the ward.

Patients can develop post-operative high temperatures and nurses use bladed fans to help. Ward 10 is not part of the new hospital, where Dyson high power fans are now standard equipment. After discussion with Staff Nurse Catherine Ward, who has worked in the team for several years, the trio plus two fellow patients determined to help the ward have the same type of Dyson fan. They agreed to split the £250 cost between the five patients plus a matching donation from the Howe Rotary.

Two key staff from Ward 10, Staff Nurse Catherine Ward and Staff Nurse Denise Potter and Douglas Smith, husband of one of the contributors, attended a Rotary meeting at The Village Inn Pitlessie to receive the fan. Our picture shows (l-r) Staff Nurse Denise Potter, John Ewan, Club President Paul Furniss, Staff Nurse Catherine Ward, Andre Hawryliw, Douglas Smith and Oliver Will.
